In literature and philosophy, “waves of life” is a metaphor for the constant changes, challenges, and emotional tides we experience. Just as ocean waves rise and fall, life brings periods of calm and turbulence

Just like the ocean, Life, as we live it, Never Stops Moving. Some days it’s calm and peaceful, and other days the waves come crashing in, one right after the other

Some seasons stretch you further than you ever thought you could go, challenging your limits and resilience in ways you didn’t know were possible. Some teach you lessons you never asked to learn, gifting you insights that only the passage of time can reveal, unraveling layers of understanding as you navigate through each experience. Some leave you exhausted, questioning everything, and wondering when things will finally get a little easier, as if you’re stuck in a cycle that seems relentless and inescapable, a loop of trial and error that tests your patience and faith. But somehow, you keep going, fueled by an inner strength that often surprises you, a determination that blossoms even in the face of adversity. You keep showing up each day, despite the odds stacked against you, finding the courage to face the unknown with an open heart. You keep finding reasons to smile, even when there’s a lot happening beneath the surface that nobody else sees, as you learn to recognize the small victories amidst the chaos, each one a testament to your perseverance. Sometimes life is simply learning to appreciate the beautiful moments even when the world feels anything but beautiful, understanding that joy can coexist with pain, allowing you to savor the fleeting instances of happiness that punctuate the struggles. The truth is that the waves will keep going, with their rhythm reflecting the unpredictable nature of life, a reminder that both triumph and turmoil are part of the same ocean. The tides will change, sometimes without warning, reminding you that nothing is permanent, offering a glimpse of hope as you realize that the storms will eventually pass. The sun will set on hard days just like it does on the good ones, serving as a reminder that darkness is often followed by light, showing you that even the longest nights will eventually come to an end. No matter how heavy life feels sometimes, there is still so much beauty worth slowing down for, countless moments waiting to be embraced and cherished if you allow yourself to pause and breathe, to take in the world around you and recognize the profound joy that exists even amidst the struggle, teaching you to celebrate life in all its glorious complexity.

Ocean waves at sunset with text: YOU WILL NEVER FEEL READY, BECAUSE READY, ISN’T A FEELING BUT A DECISION

There are moments in life when waves turn into what is known as “thrashing”. It simply means that the waves intensify and crash against the rocks with such brutal force thus creating the image above. Life isn’t always steady; it can be tumultuous and unpredictable, filled with surprises that can throw us off balance. There are moments when things intensify, and those waves come thrashing against us, challenging our resilience and strength, but the only choice we have is to DECIDE if we are drowning or if we are getting through the adversity. In every step of life, we will never feel completely ready to face the battle or to go against all odds. It is in these moments of uncertainty that our true character is often revealed. We have to decide for our own sake to make it through the intensity, and that alone brings uncertainty; however, when we decide that we are ready to confront our struggles, everything begins to change. We learn the true power we have to overcome everything we face, powerful enough to transform our challenges into opportunities for growth. We learn to dance and sing along to the motion of the wave as it is creating new notes in our hearts, constantly adapting to the rhythm of life as new experiences unfold before us. In the Vietnamese language, we learn that “Wave” means “Sóng”, and just like a song, we have different rhythms and beats. Some songs may be calm and soothing, while others are exhilarating and filled with energy. But at the end of the day, the music that is created by the song is what makes it all worth it; it is a representation of our journey, our struggles, and our triumphs. The process of creating the song is what leads to amazing music, just like the waves of life and those thrashing moments will create a version of you that no one ever saw coming. Life isn’t meant to be steady or calm at all times because it is intended to mold you into becoming the best version of yourself, but all you have to do is to DECIDE if you are giving up and drowning or if you are getting through and making the best of it. Embracing the wildness of life and allowing it to shape us is essential, and recognizing that each wave, no matter how intense, is an opportunity for growth leads us to our true potential.
